About Us

The Heart Behind RAE's Home

Every person deserves more than a place to live — they deserve a place to belong. Here's the story of how RAE's Home came to be, and what makes it different.

Cristine and Terrance Carbury, co-founders of RAE's Home

Our Story

Built From Personal Experience

RAE's Home was founded together by Cristine and Terrance Carbury — a husband-and-wife team who built this home out of both clinical experience and lived experience. Cristine brings over 20 years as a healthcare professional in medical and residential care. Terrance has always believed deeply in connecting people to their community and supporting one another, and it was that same belief that carried him through years of supporting Cristine as she cared for family members facing serious health challenges — including strokes, developmental disabilities, and a beloved nephew born with a brain injury.

That nephew's strength, and the strength of two other beloved family members, is where RAE's Home gets its name. Watching their daily triumphs — the small victories, the perseverance, the joy they found in everyday life — is what convinced Cristine and Terrance that other individuals and families deserved that same level of care, dignity, and community. RAE's Home is the home they wished had existed for their own family, built now for others.

Our Vision

RAE's Home is more than just a group residence — it is a community of belonging, purpose, and personal growth. We are committed to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) through personalized care and skill-building programs that promote independence and joy.

We envision a home where every individual is empowered, respected, and provided the opportunity to live a meaningful life — a place where potential is nurtured, not limited.

Finding the Right Fit

Group Homes vs. Supervised Living

Understanding the difference can help you choose the right environment for your loved one.

Traditional Group Home
RAE's Home Supervised Living
A Place to Feel at Home
Often larger, shift-based settings with several residents sharing space — busy, structured, and sometimes clinical.
Smaller and more family-style — calm, peaceful, and truly feels like home.
Daily Life That Fits the Individual
Schedules are typically fixed, with routines directed by staff.
Residents take the lead — flexible days centered on each person's preferences, abilities, and interests.
Empowerment Through Choice

Residents choose and plan their own activities, building confidence and ownership.
Personalized, Compassionate Care
One-on-one attention can be limited due to structure and staffing ratios.
